Bastion 2.0

The Rijnlands Architecture Platform (RAP) organized a competition for the Lammermarkt area in Leiden to feed the thinking of the municipality with fruitful ideas for this area. That something had to happen to this soulless place was clear.

The urban plan 'Bastion 2.0' was based on restoring the once-existing defensive bastion. Only now with an inner city entrance function. Here you come in by car, to leave it in the garage, walk to the center or take a cruise or water taxi. Or you go upstairs because on top of the Bastion 2.0. an event, art market can take place. In any case the elevated platform offers a beautiful view on the city. The cycle route will be slightly changed and will have its own city gate.

On the city side of the bastion, intimate canals and quays are created, with the possibility to fill in a number of plots with private commissioned houses or with a public institute (Lakenhal?).
