The Blue Gate

The Goudse Poort (The Gouda Gate) business park is located in Gouda next to the A12 and the river Gouwe. The business park was struggling with high vacancy, one-sided and monotonous business development and overdue. The Gouds Regional Architecture Platform wrote a competition to put the redevelopment of the business park on the agenda and explore the opportunities.

Our vision was a revaluation of the location on the river Gouwe and water-bound building in connection with the soft peat subsoil in Gouda. The are suffer form the high maintenance costs of sagging roads, sewers and buildings

By creating a floating business park one can escape the decaying soil and the high maintenance costs and meanwhile create an attractive urban landscape.

With a new parallel structure, the traffic is removed from the dike road along the river Gouwe, creating peace and space for recreation and slow traffic. This creates a broader functional mix and therefore a more resilient economy.

The water-bound business-buildings are a  development in an innovative sustainable way to build in peat landscapes.
